Ransom Reed, the first man from Union County to die in the Civil War, was 2016’s Voices from the Stone Honoree. Ransom was born sometime during 1840 in Paris Township. Ransom would serve in the 13th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company F. Unfortunately, Reed was killed during the Battle of Carnifex Ferry on September 10th, 1861. Ransom is buried in Grafton, West Virginia.
